Tanzania – Revenue Authority Set to Launch New Taxpayer Portal

The Tanzania Revenue Authority is finalising the technical pieces of the puzzle for the launch of a new Taxpayer Portal, called the Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration (IDRAS). The soon-to-be-new taxpayer portal is the result of more than two years of dedicated work, with one goal in mind: simplifying and harmonizing fragmented tax and business systems into a single, sophisticated online solution.

The new taxpayer portal, which should most probably commence operations on February 9, 2026, as preliminarily scheduled, will introduce novelties for non-resident digital service providers and platform/marketplace operators as well.

Currently, non-resident digital service providers or platform operators use a Simplified Online Registration Portal to register for VAT and DSA (digital services tax), as well as to file VAT returns and make related payments. With the introduction of the new Portal, most of these operations will likely be migrated to it.

The Tanzania Revenue Authority should publish, in the coming days, the URL for the new portal, user guidance, and the actions that non-resident digital service providers should take to be fully compliant with the new requirements.

VAT-registered and soon-to-be-registered non-resident digital service providers or platform operators should follow carefully new announcements from the tax authorities, in the upcoming weeks, to be able to act promptly on the technical changes that they will be mandated to do, as the new system comes into place.
