Slovakia – VAT Registration Threshold to be Increased from July 2026 

The Slovak Ministry of Finance submitted a proposal to amend the VAT Act, concerning the increase of the VAT registration threshold. The principal goal behind this decision was to boost the competitiveness of the small businesses through the reduction of compliance and administrative costs. 

The proposed amendment should come into effect from July 1, 2026. 

Principal takeaways from the proposed VAT Act amendment concerning SMEs

  • Threshold increase: Modification of the current threshold registration fragmented regime into one, unified, and increased registration threshold of EUR 85 000 
  • Effective Date: If the proposed amendment is adopted by the Parliament, the amendment shall be effective from July 1, 2026 
  • Aim of the measure: Reduction of administrative and compliance costs for small enterprises. Giving a chance to new individuals to launch their businesses, permitting them to grow, and employ more personnel
