Poland – Amazon: New Investments on the Horizon

American e-commerce giant Amazon announced plans to expand its operations in Poland through a new wave of investments over the next two years. Amazon will invest an additional 5 billion euros into its Polish operations. The main investment is the establishment of a new giant warehouse (around 220,000 sqm) powered by super-advanced technology.

Amazon has foreseen the importance of Poland in the EU e-commerce market. It should be emphasized that the e-commerce platform has invested more than 10 billion EUR so far in the development of its on-the-ground operations in the country.

Amazon has so far 11 warehouses in Poland, thousands of employees, thousands of external collaborators, and a significant market share. Its turnover is second in the country after the domestically based e-commerce platform Allegro.

Official resources emphasized the importance of online shopping for local customers. The numbers are continuously growing, at indicated that more than 71% of shoppers make an online purchase at least once per month.

Taking into consideration that Poland has reached the status of the top 20 world economies, the decision of Amazon to invest more in the country, increase the number of warehouses, employees, better service, and more collaborations with local SMEs will most probably increase the revenue, and make it more competitive.

We could see Amazon’s approach as a sort of response to Shein and other foreign-based platforms making significant investments in Poland. The e-commerce market is booming, and customers are shopping more and more, so foreign marketplaces desire to follow this trend.
