Singapore – Changes to GST Accounting Periods

The Singaporean Tax Authority issued a notification/guidance on June 2, 2026, a notification/guidance for taxable persons interested in or mandated to make changes to GST accounting periods.

The notice instructs businesses that are interested or mandated to change their GST accounting periods to formally request these changes through the tax authorities’ web portal(IRAS myTaxPortal). Based on the filing frequency and the financial year-end, the taxable persons have the possibility to adjust their GST accounting periods.

Online Procedure

The entire procedure should be handled online, following precise instructions, indicated on a step-by-step basis. The standard GST accounting period is a quarterly one. However, the taxable persons(when the conditions are met), the taxable person could change the standard quarterly to a monthly filing frequency, or to remain at a quarterly reporting period, but with different starting and ending dates (i.e., not from the first day of the month and ending on the last day of the quarterly month).

Important to emphasize that prior to any change connected to the GST accounting periods in the internal business processes, the tax authority needs to formally accept the change request.

It’s recommended that taxable persons looking to change their GST accounting periods should do submits request via the web portal at least 30 days before the start of the first “targeted” new accounting period.

Special Accounting Periods

When the taxable person’s financial periods do not align with standard calendar months, this business should submit supporting financial documentation covering one full year for approval.
