The Dutch government was considering introducing a so-called “handling fee” levy on small-value parcels arriving from outside the EU. The Dutch Government was considering introducing these measures following the approach clearly indicated by other Member States, mostly driven by France, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
The initial proposal stated that new measures would not be effective before February 1, 2026, and that the levy would be EUR 2 per different product in the consignment.
The State Secretary has decided to postpone this measure until further notice. The Secretary emphasized that one of the determining factors in adopting the customs handling fee should be the final approach of neighbouring countries.
